Edie Williams (née Britt, previously McLain and Rothwell) was perhaps the most reviled woman on Wisteria Lane, yet she never really understood why. Strong-willed and self-employed, when Edie saw something she wanted, she got after it. And nothing would stand in her way. Edie was not your typical housewife, as she'd rather go out clubbing and hooking up with indiscriminate men than to stay at home and do the chores. Well known for her sexual appetite, Edie soon acquired the status of "neighborhood slut." But after her fellow housewives raised concern about her behavior, Edie decided to leave the Lane for good. She returned 5 years later, apparently a reformed woman...with a new husband in tow, who brought with him a dark past and a plan for revenge. Edie died in a shocking accident involving an electrical post, after discovering her husband's evil plan. Edie perished just as she lived - as the 'complete and utter center of attention'.

Biography

Early life

Edie was brought up on the "wrong side of the tracks"; her father abandoned her at a young age for his mistress and her 10 year old daughter; she was raised in a caravan park; and was mistreated by her alcoholic mother. In her childhood, Edie was a skilled guitar player, along with the rest of her family who were all well-trained musicians.

After years of abuse and neglect, Edie left home and set up her own real estate company. She then married her first husband, Dr. Charles McLain and quickly became pregnant with her first and only child, Travers McLain. Following Edie's divorce from Charles and giving her ex-husband full custody of her son, she quickly remarries to Umberto Rothwell and they move to Wisteria Lane and live in 4362. Umberto and Edie have marital problems and divorce because Umberto is gay. Edie gets drunk and has sex with her handyman Eli Scruggs.

Edie tries to befriend Susan Mayer, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp, Gabrielle Solis, and Mary Alice Young but they insist on keeping their distance because of her being a slut. Edie however befriends Martha Huber and Karen McCluskey. During some point, Edie has an affair with Susan's husband Karl before she divorced him.

Season 1

	I hate Susan Mayer. Everytime I see those big doe eyes of hers, I swear to God I just want to go out and shoot a deer.

Edie tries to win over the new neighbor, Mike. ("Pilot")

When new neighbor, Mike Delfino, a plumber, moves onto Wisteria Lane, Edie begins her conquest to get him in bed with her. She visits his house with a casserole, hoping to get a date, but she's interrupted by Susan Mayer, who is also interested in Mike. After he tells the girls he is busy, Edie asks Mike to "look at her pipes". Later, Edie makes another attempt at winning Mike by inviting him over to her house for dinner. When Susan finds this out, she sabotages their date by calling Mike over to fix a plumbing emergency. The next day, Susan finds out Edie has a man over at her house. Jealous, She tries to sabotage their night again by interrupting them, asking for sugar. However, when there's no answer, she sneaks inside and accidentally sets the house on fire when hearing Edie having sex. Susan is then relieved to find out that the man was not Mike. ("Pilot")
After having her house burnt down, Edie, with help from her friend Martha Huber, search through the remains for any belongings that still have any worth. She asks Martha if she can stay with her until her insurance comes, and Martha allows her too. Martha then finds a measuring cup, thinking it's worth something, but Edie tells her it isn't hers. This makes Martha become immediately suspicious, knowing someone burnt the house down, but Edie doesn't seem to care. When Mike and Susan prepare for a dinner together, Edie ruins it by getting Mike to sympathize with her because of her house burning down, and she's invited to the dinner. During the dinner, Edie gets along great with Mike's dog, Bongo. This angers Susan, so she tries to get along with Bongo too, to impress Mike, but things end badly when he swallows her earring. Edie pulls out the big guns to seduce Mike. ("Who's That Woman?")

One day, Susan notices Edie trying to impress Mike while she washes her car in a swimsuit, and she's mortified to see it working. She interrupts Edie's plans by giving Mike junk mail horded by Julie. Martha Huber later discovers that Susan burnt down Edie's house, so she blackmails her. She tells Susan to let Edie get with Mike, as she is annoying to live with, or she'll tell the police. Susan is forced to agree, and when Mike offers to go on a date with Susan, she turns him down, insisting he go with Edie instead. ("Who's That Woman?")
When Susan goes to spy on Mike, who is with another woman, Kendra Taylor, Edie tags along. Later, Mr. Shaw approaches Edie to kill her, as Paul Young believed she blackmailed his wife, Mary Alice, who committed suicide. ("Anything You Can Do") After discovering that forty dollars has been stolen from her purse, Edie accuses Martha. This then leads to them both arguing. Martha insists she didn't take the money, but Edie explains she overheard her on the phone to the bank, and she knows she is having financial issues. Angry at Edie spying on her, Martha kicks her out of the house. Later, Mr. Shaw approaches Edie, ready to kill her. He soon discovers some evidence that proves Edie didn't blackmail Mary Alice. However, this sadly incriminates Martha. ("Guilty")

Edie helps search for her friend, Martha, who is missing. ("Move On")

When Gabrielle Solis decides to run a fashion show showcasing the women of Wisteria Lane for charity, Edie helps out by modelling some of the dresses. However, when Martha fails to show up for a dress fitting, she starts to become worried for her. ("Suspicious Minds") Still looking for Martha, Edie thinks about breaking into her house. She asks Lynette Scavo if she has a key to Martha's house, saying that she left her laptop there with personal information she doesn't want anyone to see. After Lynette is unable to help, Edie gets the police to look for Martha and enter the house. ("Come Back to Me") After reminiscing about Martha, Edie meets Martha's sister, Felicia, who came to Wisteria Lane to find out what happened to her. Later, Edie helps the neighborhood search for Martha in the woods, but they're unsuccessful. She later attends Julie's as Karl Mayer, Susan's ex-husband's date; and Susan becomes furious when she learns they made out during her marriage to him. ("Move On")
After Martha's body is discovered in the woods and recovered by police, Edie plans a funeral for her, but is saddened to realize only she and Susan are the mourners. They both go to spread Martha's ashes at a lake that meant a lot to her. During the car journey, they talk about their pasts and Edie reveals she was an outcast who smoked. Moments before releasing the ashes, Susan reveals to Edie that she burned her house down. In a rage, Edie throws the ashes all over Susan. ("Every Day a Little Death")

Edie helps Susan search for evidence that shows Paul killed Martha. ("The Ladies Who Lunch")

Susan becomes depressed after she learning of Mike's past, and Edie, encouraged by Lynette to tries to be closer with her and pays her a visit to try and cheer her up. The two of them go to a bar, and Susan explains how she thinks Paul is Martha's real murderer. Fueled by a revelation Edie makes about how Paul acted weird around Felicia, the two women break into his house, searching for incriminating clues. They find and watch part of a videotape labeled 'Angela's Award Party', that features Mary Alice... receiving an award. Paul comes home, so Edie distracts him while Susan sneaks out. ("The Ladies Who Lunch")
Susan is asked out on a date by Bill Cunningham, one of the men building Edie's new home and who had dated her briefly. She asks Edie's permission to go out with him, but she isn't given it. However, she goes out with him anyway. Edie tracks them down and scolds Susan for it. ("There Won't Be Trumpets") Later, Paul approaches Edie in the hopes of learning why she was in his house some time earlier, and Edie explains it was all Susan's fault, as she has this theory that he's evil and that he murdered Martha. Lynette later asks for some advice on how to deal with Annabel Foster, Tom's work colleague, and she tells her to keep her friends close, but her enemies closer. ("Fear No More")

Edie is furious when she discovers Mike and Susan have got back together. ("Goodbye for Now")

Whilst on a date with George, Bree spoon feeds him and Edie watches from another table, causing awkwardness for all involved. Edie later talks to Bree and she tells her that she can have anyone she wants and that she chooses the town's pharmacist, and even if it is not cheating, she is still somewhat unfaithful to Rex. ("Sunday in the Park with George") Edie brings donuts to Mike Delfino one morning, and is aggravated to find that he and Susan have gotten back together. Mike then suggests to his girlfriend that they move in together, and thus they start all the preparations for that. Edie stages an intervention with Susan's best friends, who are concerned that Mike might still be not as good as he lets on, but the idea falls through when Susan tells the girls that for the first time in a long time she is genuinely happy. ("Goodbye for Now") Edie later welcomes new neighbor, Betty Applewhite, to Wisteria Lane, and questions why she bought the house without even visiting it. ("One Wonderful Day")

Season 2

	I feel awful. I should have told you that I was doing your ex. Well, it would've been the classy thing to do.

As Edie's house nears completion, she watches as the finishing touches are added. Later, while at the

construction site of her house, Edie is approached by Susan, who is looking for Mike. Edie tells Susan she heard about the hostage situation with Zach, and she mockingly asks if he hurt her in any way, for example, "pistol whipping". Later on, Edie answers Mike's cellphone, and when she learns it's the police calling, she gives it to Mike; and they tell him they found Zach's dead body. ("Next")

Susan discovers Edie has been seeing Karl Mayer when she sees him leaving her

house one morning, dressed in a robe and boxer shorts. She tries to tell him he cannot date Edie, but the request is ignored. Later, Susan confronts Edie about dating Karl, and Edie explains how awful she feels about it and admits she should have told her first. After Edie tells Susan that she and Karl had sex in a jacuzzi, Susan tells Edie that Karl said he still loved her, clearly upsetting her. Edie confronts Susan immediately, calling her a liar. After a small struggle, Susan accidentally runs over Edie with her car, breaking her leg. ("You Could Drive a Person Crazy")

Edie starts to former a closer family-bond with Julie, and decide to perform at the church together. Susan

disapproves of this since it's for mothers and daughters only. Susan decides she wants to perform with Julie instead, Edie tells Julie that it's fair, and takes back her pitch pipe. Karl confronts Susan, and she tells Karl that Edie is spending to much time with Julie. At Julie's church, Susan starts playing the piano, and Julie starts to sing. Karl and Edie watch from the audience. Susan feels guilty and quits playing. Susan tells Edie that she should perform with Julie. Edie and Julie perform together, and Edie plays the piano off key causing Karl to think Susan set her up. Susan denies this, but lifts Karl's hand back up and has him continue recording Edie and Julie's horrible performance. ("You'll Never Get Away from Me")

Edie finds a flyer for the missing Zach Young, and so she asks Susan what will happen if they find him. Susan reveals to Edie that she doesn't think Zach will come back. Edie see's right through Susan's plan and tells her that she knows that Susan is using this situation to get close to Mike. ("My Heart Belongs to Daddy") Betty Applewhite

visits Edie to give her mixed up mail that was delivered to her house by mistake. Edie goes to get Betty's mail when Betty see's the TV, and finds out that someone has been arrested for murdering Melanie Foster. Betty rushes home, and Edie comes out with her mail only to find her gone. Later on, Bree invites Susan, Lynette, Gaby, and Edie to Rex's reburrial. Bree is in full rage because Rex thought Bree poisoned him, so Edie, Lynette, Susan, and Gaby follow Bree to Rex's new grave that is far from her own. The four ladies watch as Bree has a coniption. ("They Asked Me Why I Believe in You")

When Paul Young returns to Wisteria Lane, Susan tells all the residents that he is crazy, evil, and killed Martha Huber. Edie, and some other residents follow Susan to Paul's home. Paul makes an allibi, and Edie asks if Susan has been smoking something. ("I Wish I Could Forget You") When Susan returns Mike's belongings following their breakup, Susan witnesses Edie and Karl fighting, and Karl driving off after breaking up with Edie. Karl spends the night at Susan's house, and ends up sleeping with Susan after she finds out that Karl and Edie split up because Karl had a picture of Susan under his mattress. The following morning, Susan tells Karl that he needs to patch things up with Edie. Karl does as Susan says, and Edie confronts Susan, thanking her for fixing her relationship with Karl. Edie gives Susan the picture that Karl was keeping saying that he won't need it anymore. ("Color and Light")

At the girl's poker game, Susan announces that she has found her father, and plans to introduce herself. Edie

makes a joke saying that Susan can introduce herself to her father by saying that she's his '40 year old love child'. ("That's Good, That's Bad") After Susan's stepmother, Carol spray paints her garage door to say "WHORE", Edie drives by Susan's house and Susan asks what Edie wants. Edie say, "That pretty much says it all", referring to the garge door. ("Coming Home") Edie and Karl attend a party Bree Van de Kamp's house, and witness Gaby and Tom kiss. When a dead body is found in a car in front of the Applewhite's house, Edie tells the girls that she always thought Betty was suspecious since she bought their house sight on seen, moved in during the middle of the night, and there are always noises coming from her house. ("One More Kiss")

At the blood drive, Edie, Susan, Lynette, Bree, and Gaby watch Betty Applewhite, as they are getting suspecious about her and her son. ("We're Gonna Be All Right") Edie and the others are upset when Bree invites Betty to play poker with them, however, they did not realize that Bree was being blackmailed by Betty. ("There's Something About a War")

Susan and Edie confront Bree about her suddent friendship with Betty Applewhite, and Bree does not give a clear response. Edie also tells Bree that Danielle and Matthew were making out in the park. Bree storms away from Susan and Edie, and Susan says that Edie could've sugarcoated it. Later on, Susan goes to Karl and Edie saying that she needs health insurrance for an operation. Edie suggests that she quickly marry someone. The following day, she introduces Susan to a gay businessman in need of a wife, Gary Grantham. Susan and Gary almost get married, but Gary's life partner convinces him to call it off. Susan gets ready to have Edie find her a new "husband", but Karl offers to remarry Susan, and not tell Edie. Susan excepts Karl's proposal. ("Silly People")

When Edie is snooping through Karl's briefcase, she finds a pre nup and an engagement ring, causing her to think Karl will propose on Valentine's Day. Edie thinks Karl will propose to her at dinner since he takes her to a fancy restaurant and buys her a fancy dessert. Edie spots Susan and her boyfriend, Dr. Ron dining at the same restaurant. Edie pulls Susan aside to alert her about (what she thinks is) Karl proposing. Susan tries to tell Edie that he is not preparing to propose, but Edie thinks that Susan is just jealous. Edie returns to her dinner, only to spend the rest of the night with no proposal, and no ring. That night, Susan confronts Karl, and tells him why Edie is upset. Karl assures his ex-wife that he plans to marry Edie, but the following day, he remarries Susan. ("Thank You So Much")

After Edie tells Susan that she is planning a surprise wedding at their "engagement party", Susan and Karl are forced to confess their marriage to Edie who still does not know. As they are about to tell Edie, she already has company: Dr. Ron who has told Edie everything about their relationship. Edie throws a vase and is very angered at the both of them. In order to keep Edie quiet and happy, Karl agrees to throw Edie a lavish wedding and Susan is forced to make all of the arrangements and to be her bartender at the engagement party. At the engagement party, Felicia presents Edie and Karl with a gift: her sister Martha Huber's teeth in the hope of reminding everyone that Paul killed her sister. Paul is then humiliated and forced to leave the party. ("Everybody Says Don't")

One morning, Karl finally decides to leave Edie by sneaking out before she wakes up. As Karl is ready to walk out

the door, Edie wakes up and confronts him before he leaves. Karl doesn't explain why he's leaving her, so she chases him out of her house. As Edie is ready to hit Karl's car with a rake, Karl drives away, but is hit by a garbage truck. Later, Edie seeks comfort from the other housewives, especially from Susan, whom Karl has also betrayed. Edie then enlists the help of Susan when she has suspicions about who Karl is cheating with. Edie soon takes Susan to a Hooters-type restaurant and accuses a waitress of being slutty. A fight soon ensues and Susan is forced to intervene when Edie is attacked by several waitresses. The following day, Edie thanks Susan for helping her and alerts her that she has hired a detective to learn who Karl has been spending his time with and not to be alarmed. ("It Wasn't Meant to Happen")

Edie hires a private investigator, Oliver Weston, to determine if Karl was cheating on her with another woman.

When Weston arrives on Wisteria Lane, he hides in the bushes of a neighboring home and records Karl and Susan talking in the garage about their one night stand. Weston is soon discovered by Mike Delfino who asks him why he is snooping around. Mike punches Weston in the face, but Weston reveals that he has a tape of Susan and Karl talking about their affair, and will send it to Edie. Susan tries to pay off Weston, but when she doesn't have enough money, she writes Edie an apology letter instead. After Mike pays off Weston, Susan attempts to retrieve the letter before Edie receives it, however, her plan does not work, and Edie learns of Susan and Karl's betrayal. When Susan visits Mike, Edie sneaks into Susan's garage, and drenches her house in kerosene, setting it on fire. ("I Know Things Now")

After Susan's house burns down, Edie watches as Susan is talking with the other housewives. Susan soon

realizes that it was Edie who burned the house down. Hours later, Susan quietly visits Edie and asks if she was the culprit. Edie admits that she did and gloats that Susan cannot tell anyone since she has no witnesses. Susan then pays Mike a visit and asks if he can find her a wire so that Edie can confess. Susan then visits Edie the next day and receives the confession she had desired. Edie quickly catches on and chases Susan down the block. Edie is halted when she is stung by a nest of yellowjackets. Susan later visits Edie in the hospital where Susan offers Edie a deal to keep her out of jail. Edie declines and swears ongoing revenge against Susan. ("No One is Alone")

Edie hosts the openhouse for 4352 Wisteria Lane, but overhears Karen McCluskey scaring away potential buyers by telling them the story of Paul Young murdering Felicia Tilman. Edie throws Karen out in the rain. Later on, Edie is showing the Young house to an older couple who ask if the street is quiet. Edie says that there is no street as quiet as Wisteria Lane, but as they open the front door, Parker Scavo's entire birthday party is running down the street yelling and screaming. Edie quickly closes the door and decides to show them more of the inside. During that same day, Edie shows the house to a same sex couple, and when she goes to open a closet, she finds Gabrielle Solis's surrogate, Xiao-Mei hiding. Edie calls Gaby and has her pick Xiao-Mei up. ("Listen to the Rain on the Roof")

In the middle of the night, Edie hear's a noise outside her house, so she grabs a shot gun and walks outside only to find her nephew, Austin McCann. Austin reveals that he was planning on spending the night, and heading to Mexico in the morning after a fight with his mother. Edie tells him that he's not going to Mexico, and that he can live with her. At Bree Hodge's wedding reception, Edie runs into Julie Mayer and asks her if she's met her nephew, Austin. Julie says she didn't recognize him with a shirt on, and walks away. Later on, Susan asks Edie if she's having a good time. Edie replies saying that she was until she saw Susan. ("It Takes Two")

After Julie's fuse-box explodes, she goes to ask if Edie can fix it. Edie isn't home, so Austin does it instead. When Austin is fixing the box, Edie comes over to ask Julie for her CD player back that she leant Susan when they were still friends. Julie says that it's with Mike at the hospital. Edie visits Mike at the hospital to retreive her CD player when she see's something unexpected... Mike opens his eyes. ("A Weekend in the Country")

Edie watches as Mike awakens from his coma. Edie tells Dr. Craig, who tells Ida Greenberg, who tells Lynette, who tells Tom, who tells Carlos, who tells Gaby, who tells Bree, who tells Danielle, who tells Julie, who tries to tell Susan. Edie starts taking care of Mike in the hospital, and starts telling him lies about Susan. When Susan finally shows up at the hospital to visit Mike, he sends her away because he believes all the lies Edie has told him. ("Like It Was")

Season 4

	The first thing you should know is that Edie Britt never actually intended to die. But someone she loved was trying to leave her. So, she planned every detail; from the silk scarf she'd hang by, to the suicide note detailing her despair. Now all Edie had to do was wait for her beloved to come home. You see told hold onto her man, Edie knew she had to find the perfect moment to let go...

Edie buys herself an engagement ring for when she plans to marry Carlos. ("Now You Know")

Edie's suicide attempt was actually a fake. After she kicks the chair over, she holds onto the scarf. She waits for the right minute for when Carlos returns to get his things. Carlos enters the house and she lets go. Karen McCluskey stops Carlos to talk to him about leaving the trash cans outside. Edie struggles to hold on. By the time Carlos gets upstairs, she is already hanging there unconscious. Carlos cuts her down just in time to save her life. As he puts his hand on her, Edie grabs on tight. One month after almost killing herself, she is let out of the hospital. She is introduced to Katherine Mayfair at her barbecue which Edie thought was her party. Carlos decides to stay with Edie until she recovers. This makes his ex-wife, Gabrielle Lang, very upset because they planned to start an affair. ("Now You Know")

When Carlos isn't around, Edie looks through his stuff and finds out about his off-shore bank account. Edie blackmails Carlos to become enaged to her. Carlos reluctantly agrees to this. ("Smiles of a Summer Night")

Edie is reminded of her attempted suicide by an intoxicated Lynette. ("The Game")

Edie plans to announce her engagement at Susan Delfino's charade party. Carlos forbids her to announce it, but she buys an engagement ring for herself to wear. Gaby sees this and is furious. When Katherine finds out that Gaby is flirting with her husband Adam Mayfair, she gets mad and reveals Gaby's past with John Rowland to Edie. ("The Game")

Edie finds out she has crabs and there is a chance Carlos might have it too. They have to use this horrible shampoo. Meanwhile Carlos warns Gaby who has to do it as well and has to trick Victor into doing it. At Bree's baby shower, Edie recognizes the smell on Victor. He says it was a kind of shampoo Gaby got him. Edie looks at Carlos who scratches, then Gaby who does the same, then Victor who does it too. Edie realizes what is going on and is furious. She smashes the crabcake she had in her hand. ("If There's Anything I Can't Stand")

Edie hires a private detective to watch Gaby and Carlos. Gaby, however, thought it was someone Victor sent because he left town for the weekend. Gaby and Carlos decide to wait six months to start up again. They have a goodbye kiss which the private detective took a picture of, he gives Edie the pictures at the end of the episode. ("Art Isn't Easy")

Edie sees Carlos moving out. Knowing about his affair she asks him if there was someone else. He says there wasn't. Edie goes to report his off-shore account to the IRS. Carlos had moved the money. Edie confronts him and he says he knows nothing about this money just in case she was wearing a wire. As revenge, she gives Victor the pictures. ("Now I Know, Don't Be Scared")

Carlos goes to retrieve a painting he forgot at Edie's house. She gives it to him with to big holes in it. She reveals that she gave Victor the pictures which worries Carlos. ("You Can't Judge a Book by its Cover")

When Victor goes missing, Edie gives the police a tip saying Gaby cheated on Victor with her ex-husband Carlos. ("Distant Past")

Edie and Gabrielle see the tornado headed their way. ("Something's Coming")

While on Gaby's front porch, a man mistakes her for Gaby and gives her the documents to the off-shore bank account. After he leaves, Gaby chases her. Edie locks herself into her house. Gaby throws a chair through her window and fights with Edie for the papers. They run back outside but lose the papers in the wind. Edie and Gaby run back inside when the tornado comes. Edie goes to her crawl space but Gaby refuses to get in with her. Edie doesn't care but Gaby gets in. Edie and Gaby start to get along and forgive one another. Gaby and Edie make up. ("Something's Coming")

When Edie finds out Carlos gave her fake jewelery when they were together, she reveals to Gaby that Carlos is blind permanently. ("Sunday")

Edie gets Carlos dog food for his seeing eye dog. She also confronts Gaby saying that she needs to treat him better now that he's blind. ("Hello, Little Girl")

When Bree decides to divorce her husband Orson Hodge, Edie asks her to take him back to his apartment when he wouldn't leave her alone. When Orson didn't want to go back, Edie let him spend the night. Bree thought this was really inappropriate but Edie didn't care. Bree thinks Edie might start an affair with him because she did with Karl Mayer, Mike Delfino, and Carlos Solis. When Edie and Orson get drunk, they share a drunken kiss which Bree see's while looking in the window. Both Edie and Orson regret the kiss. ("Opening Doors")

Edie is given the boot. ("Mother Said")

Bree confronts Edie about this and smacks her. Bree then sabotoges Edie's business. Edie goes to Orson's apartment to bitch about his soon to be ex-wife. Edie stumbles upon papers revealing Danielle and Austin are Benjamin's real parents. Edie blackmails Bree to be nice to her and do everything she says or her secret will be out. Bree tells Susan, Lynette, and Gaby to her surprise understand. They all end their friendship with her. Edie moves away to be near Travers now that she has lost her friends. ("Mother Said")

Time jump

In the five-year jump between season four and five, Edie ends up not spending as much time with Travers as promised. Edie starts to visit Orson Hodge who agreed to go to prison if Bree stayed married to him. Edie learns that Bree never visits him and is disgusted by it. When Bree confronts her about visiting her husband, Edie tells her that there is nothing better to do now that she was given the boot from Wisteria Lane. Edie shames Bree into being a better person and visiting her husband. ("Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know")

Eventually Edie starts dating a motovational speaker named Dave Williams. They date for a short time and become engaged. They soon get married with a small ceromony at City Hall. Dave convinces Edie that they can be happy in Fairview. Edie and Dave decide to move back to Wisteria Lane. ("Connect! Connect!")

Season 5

	You know someone else my age with a body like this?

Edie returns to Wisteria Lane. ("You're Gonna Love Tomorrow")

At the beginning of the season premiere, a mysterious man paid a man out of his lease on Edie Britt's old house. This man turned out to be Edie Williams's new husband, Dave Williams. The day after returning, Edie goes outside to wash her car to let everyone know she has returned. Lynette Scavo is the first to see this. She calls Susan Mayer, Bree Hodge, and Gabrielle Solis to tell them. They all confronted her and she tells them she is a changed woman. She brings the four woman inside to introduce them to her husband. They are shocked to see he wasn't stolen and he was actually hers.

The girls decided to throw her a party saying their sorry. At the party, Edie is shocked to see Karen McCluskey is still alive. Edie introduces her to Dave. Edie tells the girls she forgives them for giving her the boot. The girls are upset because this was a party saying they forgave her. Edie and the girls fight. After the party, Edie says it was a bad idea for ever moving back and she asked why he was so determined to live on Wisteria Lane. He says he knows they can be happy there. ("You're Gonna Love Tomorrow")

Edie decides she wants to move after everyone is so cold to her. Dave goes to Karen's house to ask her to apologize. When she refuses, he steals her cat, Toby, and makes it look like he ran away. Dave offers to help find it once she apologizes to Edie. Karen agrees but goes over to Katherine's house to do research on Dave and find out his true motives. ("We're So Happy You're So Happy") Karen and Katherine start asking Edie questions about Dave to find out more about him. Edie realizes she hardly knows anything about her husband. At Danielle Van de Kamp's welcome home party, Karen, Katherine, and Edie ask Dave questions. Dave doesn't fully answer them. Dave reveals his father was an alcoholic. Edie apologizes to him on the way home and says she never should have wondered about the stuff Karen said. Dave then tells Edie that Karen could be going senile. ("Kids Ain't Like Everybody Else")

Edie wants to buy Mary Alice Young's old house but Dave doesn't. When Mike won't join his band, he and Edie decide to buy the house and rent it out to Mike without Edie knowing the real reason. ("Back in Business") At Karen McCluskey's surprise party, it is Edie's job to get her drunk. ("Mirror, Mirror") Mrs. McCluskey tells Edie she will be staying with her sister for a while. Dave later tells Edie about his late brother Steve who got caught on drugs. Steve went to prison and was killed by another inmate. ("There's Always a Woman")

When her husband, Mike Delfino, Carlos Solis, Orson Hodge, and Tom Scavo all perform at Warren Schilling's night club, Edie hands out fliers to everyone. Porter Scavo also breaks into her house to steal Edie's gun during the show. When the night club catches on fire, Edie is the first to scream "FIRE!!!". Edie is terrified when Dave stays behind to help everyone out. Edie is thrilled when Dave comes out of the fire alive. ("City on Fire") After the fire, Edie becomes worried that Dave is becoming obsessed about this. Edie reveals to Dave that the police think Porter had something to do with it. ("Me and My Town")

After Porter is arrested, Lynette sneaks into Edie's house to return the gun. While coming downstairs, Lynette notices Dave talking to himself which she finds strange. Edie goes to Susan Mayer's house later on to borrow a cork screw after breaking her own. Susan comments that Edie uses her's up in three months when it is suppose to be a life time. Edie gets a kick about how MJ is being mean to Katherine. Edie tells Susan that M.J. can tell Susan's resentment to Mike and Katherine's new relationship. ("A Vision's Just a Vision")

Edie notices Dave's unususal behavior is continuing. One night, Edie goes downstairs to the kitchen to find Dave talking to himself. Edie taps him and he accidentally smacks her across the arm. The next morning, Edie demands an explanation on why Dave is acting strange. Dave reveals to Edie that he had a wife who died in a car crash. Edie is furious with Dave because he never mentioned her while Edie told Dave about being divorced twice and her entire past. Edie gives Dave to the end of the day to pack up and move out as she is gonna file for divorce. ("Home is the Place")

The morning after Dave moves out, Susan, Lynette, Bree, and Gaby go over to Edie's house to confort her. After a few minutes, Susan announces she is moving in with Jackson Braddock to Riverton. All the attention is then turned to Susan which makes Edie upset. Later on while cleaning out the basement of Andrew Van de Kamp and Alex Cominis's new house, Susan tells Edie that the mail man mixed up their mail. Susan gives Edie her mail and Edie tells Susan she threw her's away. Susan and Edie then get locked in the basement when Susan accidentally lets the door close on them. Edie reveals to Susan how she was mad about Susan taking away all the attention. Susan tells Edie that Edie has had numerous failed relationships and she gave it the ammount of time it deserved while refering to Mike Delfino, Karl Mayer, Carlos Solis, and Orson Hodge. Edie tells Susan that she has never gone without being in a relationship. She then makes up a timeline. Edie tells Susan how when she was sixteen, her father left her mother for someone else who had a daughter. One day, her father took her horse collection saying she was to old for them and she gave them to her new stepsister. Edie and Susan both decide to change and Edie lets Dave move back in saying she is ready to settle down. Edie and Susan also finally end their long time rivalry. Edie brings Susan her mail over later on. ("Connect! Connect!")

After getting back from a trip with Dave, Edie finds out her handyman Eli Scruggs died. Edie then remembers when she first moved to Wisteria Lane and she was having marital problems with her second husband, Umberto Rothwell. After divorcing Umberto for being gay, Edie and Eli had sex. ("The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened") Edie asks Dave the difference from being married to Lila Dash and being married to her. Dave tells Edie that he and Edie have a more real marriage. Dave says he and Lila were like a fairytale. He says that the end of a fairy tale is death. Dave says love is only temorary which is why you have to make it last. Edie says she should have just asked if Lila was more pretty than her. ("Mama Spent Money When She Had None")

Edie wants her and Dave to spend a romantic weekend at a hotel. At first Dave refuses but when she hears ringing from the closet which Dave is hiding his doctors phone, he agrees to go. Edie starts calling travel agents. When Dave plans a camping trip instead with Mike, Katherine, and Edie. Edie refuses to go and decides to make Dave take her to a hotel the next weekend. Dave agrees. ("In a World Where the Kings Are Employers")

When Mike and Katherine move in together, they have a house-warming party and send out Edie and Dave to get liquor. At the drug store, a priest recognizes Dave. Dave and Edie walk away but Dave goes back. Edie watches Dave from inside an aisle. Dave tells the priest that he has remarried and started his life over again and wants him to leave them alone. After Dave leaves, Edie confronts the priest wondering if Dave and the priest have a history. The priest refers to Edie as Mrs. Dash. Edie corrects him saying her last name is Williams. The priest then says he didn't realize Edie kept her maiden name. Edie gets suspecious because her maiden name is Britt. When Edie gets home she searches for the name David Dash on her computer. ("Crime Doesn't Pay")

Edie goes to a local newspaper to dig informtion on Dave and his family. Edie finds out Dave had a daughter named Paige Dash who died in the same crash as Dave's late wife. Edie asks Dave later on if he ever wanted kids. Dave says he had a "friend" who had a kid that died in a car crash. Dave then says having kids wouldn't be worth it. Edie knows Dave is referring to himself and continues with her research. Back at the newspaper, an intern finds an article revealing that Mike would not be charged in the deaths of Lila and Paige Dash, but is told to wait until tomorrow to give it to Edie. ("The Story of Lucy and Jessie")

Edie crashes her car into a utility pole. ("A Spark. To Pierce the Dark")

Edie needs to get more fax paper from the store before she can get the fax revealing everything about her evil husband. Karen McCluskey tells Edie that Dave is evil but Edie tells Karen how Dave had both a wife and daughter that died in a car crash. Karen apologizes to Edie saying she had no idea. Edie later puts in her fax paper. She gets the article and is shocked. Edie texts Dave and tells him to come home immediately. This stops Dave from killing Katherine Mayfair. When Dave gets home, he finds Edie sitting on the staircase drunk. Edie tells Dave she always wondered why he married her. Edie says she tried to believe it was for love but she never could. Edie holds up the newspaper article of Mike. Dave tells Edie that she should go to bed because she is clearly drunk. Edie refuses and attempts to call the police. Dave wrestles the phone from her hands and starts strangling her. This shocks Edie. Dave finally lets go and is more than shocked to see she is alive. Edie manages to get her car keys and runs out the door. While driving down the Lane. Edie tries to call Mike or Katherine. However, Orson runs in front of her and she swerves to miss him. Edie crashes into a utility pole. As Edie steps out of the car, she didn't realize water was under her. She holds onto the door when she steps into the puddle and she is electrocuted when the door hits the electrical wire that is dangling down. Edie falls to the ground and her fate is left unknown. ("A Spark. To Pierce the Dark")

Edie dies as the center of attention, just as she lived. ("Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know")

After everyone hears the crash, Susan Mayer, Mike Delfino, Katherine Mayfair, Gabrielle Solis, and Bree Hodge all rush out to see what happened. When they saw Edie, they were all silent for a minute. Then they broke the silence. Katherine tells someone to call for an ambulance, Susan gets down to the ground to tell Edie everything will be all right. Edie dies two seconds later. ("Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know")

Edie's ghost haunts Dave. ("Everybody Says Don't (season 5)")

When Dave is starting to lose it. He starts seeing ghosts of the people he had hurt and betrayed. He sees Edie laying on the couch telling him he should just hurry it up with killing MJ. ("Everybody Says Don't (season 5)")

Post-Death

	And that is how Wisteria Lane became my final resting place. My ashes was spread over grass I had once walked on, beneath trees that had once given me shade, on top of roses I once admired, and beside fences I once gossiped over. And after my friends had finished saying goodbye, a wind came along and took what was left of me into the air. As I looked down on the world I began to let go of it. I let go of white picket fences, and cars and driveways, coffee cups and vacuum cleaners. I let go of all those things which seemed so ordinary, but when you put them together they make up a life, a life that really was one-of-a-kind. I’ll tell you something... it’s not hard to die when you know you have lived. And I did, oh, how I lived.

Season 5

After Edie's death, the housewives pay a visit to her son, Travers, to announce her death and to give him her ashes. On the journey up, each of the housewives, along with Karen McCluskey, share memories of Edie. Once they arrive, however, Travers tells them that they were her closest friends and that they should spread the ashes wherever they see fit. Ultimately, her ashes are spread around Wisteria Lane. Edie was at peace about her death and had no regrets because she lived her life to the fullest and to her it was "a one of a kind life." ("Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know")

When Dave starts to go insane, he has hallucinations of Dr. Samuel Heller, Lila Dash, Paige Dash, and Edie Britt. Edie tells Dave to do away with his complicated plan of killing Susan's son, MJ, on a fishing trip, and instead urging him to go and kill MJ right then and there. ("Everybody Says Don't")

Season 6

Edie is later mentioned by Lee McDermott. While selling Mary Alice's house to the Bolens, Lee says he got really lucky, since the woman who handled all the properties in the neighborhood (clearly Edie) slammed her car into a pole and got fried by a power line. ("Nice is Different Than Good")

Season 7

The final mention of Edie is when Lynette is talking with Renee Perry. Renee mentions that she is renting 4362 Wisteria Lane, and Lynette says, "Edie's old house?" ("You Must Meet My Wife")

Behind Closed Doors

The character Edie was originally written as a recurring role in the series. Actress Nicollette Sheridan, who originally auditioned for Bree Van de Kamp, one of the series' more prominent roles, was cast in the role in February 2004. On August 11, Sheridan was announced to have joined the main cast for the series' first season, the thirteenth cast member to do so. Despite proving popular with fans and critics, Sheridan's role remained somewhat minimal in the series' first two seasons. Series creator Marc Cherry insisted that Edie served "only as a spoiler to complicate the other women's lives." Although Sheridan thought of Edie as the fifth main housewife—in addition to Susan, Bree, Lynette Scavo, and Gabrielle Solis—the opening credits only pictured the other four women, excluding Edie. Additionally, Cherry shared that his goal for the series would be to have the central four women remain in the series.

However, Marcia Cross's real-life maternity leave caused Bree to be absent in several episodes of the third season. Edie's character was elevated in prominence, providing the fourth concurrent storyline for the episodes. During this time, the character's "layers are peeled away and the character is developed on a deeper level than has been previously explored." Despite Cross's return, Edie maintained a more important role throughout seasons four and five until the character's death.

In February 2009, it was announced that Sheridan would be leaving the show following her character's death, which would involve a car accident and electrical wire. Cherry had confirmed the death of several fan favorites at the beginning of the series' fifth season in September 2008. Rumors of on-set problems with Sheridan and her squabbles with Cherry reportedly led to her departure. Sheridan commented that killing Edie "was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications," and admitted to feeling ignored by Cherry while on the series. Cherry alleges that the reason behind Edie's death was to cut costs from the series. The series reportedly saved an estimated $100,000 to $200,000 per episode without the cost of Sheridan's salary. In April 2010, Sheridan filed a lawsuit against Cherry, alleging wrongful dismissal and assault and battery, among five other counts. The following June, Sheridan filed an amended claim, clarifying that the alleged assault was a "light tap," but reaffirmed her stance that her contract was wrongfully terminated.

Sheridan's portrayal of the character has earned mostly positive reviews. In 2005, Sheridan was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.

• Edie was seen attending the First Methodist Church with Ida Greenberg in the season two premiere episode, "Next".
• Edie is based on the neighborhood slut featured in director Tim Burton's movie "Edward Scissorhands", called "Joyce", and portrayed by actress Kathy Baker.
• Edie was originally going to be called "Evie McCall", as stated in the book, Behind Closed Doors.
• Nicollette Sheridan originally auditioned for Bree Van de Kamp, but Marc Cherry thought she would be better as neighborhood tramp, Edie.
• At the beginning, Edie was only supposed to be a recurring role and was only set to appear in a few episodes each season. However when Sheridan was cast, Cherry updated her to a more prominent role.
• Although Edie is often seen as the fifth main housewife — in addition to Susan, Bree, Lynette, and Gabrielle — the opening credits only pictured the other four women, excluding Edie.
