Featured Character  Bree Weston, a neurotic and perfectionist homemaker, was once the wife and mother every other woman dreamed of being. Coined as "Martha Stewart-on-steroids", Bree's life took a drastic turn for the worse after her beloved husband's untimely death. The matriarch of the family became an alcoholic, abandoned her son, and was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Bree eventually managed to regain control and became a famous businesswoman and chef after publishing a cookbook. However, after her marriage with her second husband disintegrated and she lost her business, Bree's world fell apart once more. The housewife's alcohol addiction returned, she engaged herself in numerous sexual relationships, and even attempted suicide after helping cover up a murder. Featured Episode Susan discovers that Mike had been hiding a secret from her for years, and Gabrielle discovers a sexy way to earn a bigger commission at her new job as a personal shopper. Meanwhile, while Lynette continues to try and win Tom back, his girlfriend Jane does everything in her power to ensure that the two carry through with their divorce. - Marcia Cross originally tried for the part of Mary Alice Young, but was cast as Bree Van De Kamp. Nicollette Sheridan tried for the part of Bree Van De Kamp, but was cast as Edie Britt.
- Dana Delany (who later went on to be cast as Katherine) auditioned for the role of Bree and was offered the part. After thinking about it, she declined the role. Her reasoning was that she had played a similar role in the soap Pasadena, and felt she would be repeating herself.
- The show is filmed on Colonial Street, a backlot street set at Universal Studios Hollywood.
