Biography
Edit
Paul Young is pleasant-looking enough, but he exudes an eerie quality that makes his neighbors uncomfortable. And rightly so, this is the man who buried a dead body under his swimming pool and murdered Martha Huber with his bare hands.
Every neighborhood, like every family, needs someone to gossip about. For Paul, life is not a joking matter and one's neighbors have no right to pry into one's personal business. If anyone tells him otherwise, well, she'd better watch out... or she might end up like Martha Huber.
And yet what keeps Paul from being completely unsympathetic is his passionate love for Mary Alice. He laments his wife's death and can't get over it.
Early Life
Edit
Years ago, Mary Alice couldn't conceive so she and her husband, Paul, bought a baby illegally from a heroin addict, Deirdre.

Added by UFO EditorThey then moved to Wisteria Lane with the baby to start a new life. The Young family's beautiful, happy life on Wisteria Lane was nearly destroyed when the woman returned, seemingly sober, wanting her baby back. After a verbal fight, as Deirdre went to reclaim her baby, Mary Alice stabbed her and killed her, as the child, originally named Dana and renamed Zach, watched. Mary Alice and Paul chopped up the body and buried it under their pool. Zach's father turned out to be Mike Delfino. Years later, when Mrs Huber discovered Mary Alice's secret via her sister, Felicia, who worked with "Angela", she blackmailed Mary Alice. In desperation, Mary Alice committed suicide.
Season 1
Edit
After Mary Alice's suicide, Paul dug a mysterious toy chest out from his pool, the one containing the butchered remains of Deirdre. He then threw the chest in a lake. When Mary Alice's friends find Martha Huber's blackmail note, Paul became furious, and hired a private investigator, Mr. Shaw, to find and kill the blackmailer.

Added by Julietfan2626After originally believing Edie Britt to be the culprit, Shaw later discovered it was Martha Huber all along. Paul decided to talk to Martha himself, but when Martha called Mary Alice a bad person, Paul hits her in the head with his own blender and then strangles her to death in rage, and buried her body in the woods. When Martha's sister, Felicia comes to town, Paul offers his condolences, and the two become neighbors. When Martha's body is found, Felicia finds out the truth about the Young family through her sisters diaries, and realizes Paul and Mary Alice Young are really Todd and Angela Forrest. When Zach believes he remembers killing his "sister", Dana, Paul tells him he didn't, and that Dana is alive. Now, Felicia knows Paul and Mary Alice were murderers, and teams up with Mike Delfino, Deirdre's former lover, to get revenge. Felicia takes Zach, and when Paul comes to get him, Felicia tells him she knows everything, he must go on the run, and leave Zach with her.

Added by UFO EditorPaul still wants to take Zach with him, and leaves a note to meet him later that night. Instead of Zach, however, Mike shows up, and kidnaps Paul. He drives him into the desert and holds him at gun point, revealing his relationship with Deirdra, and asks him what she did to deserve to die at his hands. Paul tells Mike the truth, and Mike realizes Zach, or Dana, is his son. He then leaves Paul in the desert, and drives away.
Season 2
Edit
Paul returns a while later, to the shock and horror of his neighbors. He is still suspected by the residents of Wisteria Lane as well. Later, he finds out Susan paid Zach to go to Utah, and along with Mike, shuns her. Zach returns later on, and the two reunite. Susan Mayer feels bad for Zach, and to make it up to Mike, makes the two spend time together. Paul is angered by this, which causes him and Mike to fight on different occasions. Felicia Tilman, however, was still intent on making Paul Young pay for her sister's death. Felicia, who was Noah Taylor's nurse, planned to inform him about Paul's involvement in the murder of Noah's daughter Deirdre, hoping that Noah would take justice into his own hands. Noah tried to avenge his daughter, but his plans to kill Paul ended when Mike took Zach, his grandson, to see him and told him to stop trying to kill his "true" father. He then blackmailed him. Felicia then moved back onto Wisteria Lane and terrorized Paul by placing shortening on his front steps, which caused him to hurt himself, replacing lighter fluid with gasoline, and called to get his house fumigated with him inside.

Added by Lost SoulAfter Paul lost control and attacked her in front of several witnesses, she seized her chance and faked her own murder by cutting off two of her fingers which led to Paul being arrested. Zach, after killing Noah and inheriting his estate, abandoned him as well when he realized he was responsible for Martha Huber's death.
Season 3
Edit
Months later, while at prison, Paul encounters Mike, who was arrested for the murder of Monique Polier, which he didn't commit. Paul, whom Mike has little or no memory of, tells him that he believes Mike is innocent of the murder. Furthermore, Paul pays two inmates to attack Mike and then rescues him in order to gain his trust. Paul did this because he needed a favor from Mike when he is released: to ask his biological son (and Paul's adoptive son) Zach to visit Paul in prison. Zach agrees to come and visit Paul, but once again, Zach refuses to help him as he knows Paul is interested in using his money to try and locate Felicia Tilman, who has gone into hiding.
Paul then spent around 8 years in jail.
Season 6
Edit
Paul returns to Wisteria Lane in the final moments of season six, renting Susan and Mike's house. When Lee tells him about how nice the neighbors in Wisteria Lane are, Paul responds by saying, "Oh, I know the neighborhood very well. The truth is: I used to live here." Lee says that everyone would be excited to see that he has moved back. Paul says, "They absolutely will."
Season 7
Edit
It is revealed that Felicia Tilman was pulled over for speeding and her deception was discovered, allowing Paul to be released. His return to the Lane is met with surprise by the neighbors who feel guilty about not believing in him. He visits Felicia in jail, making it clear he murdered her sister and she can't do anything about it. He tells Lee he wants to buy back his old house, stating he's had a long time to make plans.

Added by UFO EditorPaul Young visits the hospital shortly after Juanita is admitted, much to the surprise of Bree, Andrew, Karen and Lynette. The four of them are put in an uncomfortable position when Paul insists they all pray for Juanita’s recovery. Later, Bree and Karen gossip back on Wisteria Lane with Bob and Lee. A nervous, clearly lost woman begins walking down the street in an angry state of confusion. The four of them approach her and offer their help. She informs them that she is looking for Paul Young, much to their surprise. Paul then emerges from his home and yells for the strange woman. He then introduces her to the others as his wife, Beth Young.

Added by UFO EditorLater, it is learned that Beth met Paul while he was still in prison for the murder of Felicia Tilman. She often wrote him letters, sometimes sexually explicit, professing her love for him. However, Beth never expected that Paul would be released. Apparently lost in fantasy, she married Paul while he was still incarcerated. Much to her dismay, Felicia Tilman was found to be alive and Paul was released. She appears extremely detached, timid, and uncomfortable with her new husband. An angry Paul begins growing impatient that Beth has yet to consummate their marriage. He warns her that his patience will only last for so long.
Paul and Beth have sex finally, after Beth's initial reluctance. And Beth begins to question Paul's motives for returning to Wisteria Lane when she finds out that he is letting his old cellmate move into his old house. He refuses to tell her why, so when she is sure that Paul is gone, she confronts his cellmate. Beth threatens to tell the police he attempted to rape her if he does not comply with her wishes (to tell her what Paul's up to). She confronts Paul later and he tries to defend himself, but finds there is no need, as she supports her husband in all his endeavors. He calls her the "perfect wife", but it is proved not to be so when it is revealed at the end that Beth's mother who she is always whispering to on the phone is none other than Paul's sworn enemy, Felicia Tilman!

Added by Julietfan2626Lynette learns that Paul is officially opening the halfway house and is receiving an award from the mayor for doing so. She gathers the neighborhood to start a protest during the mayor's award speech. The riot is exactly what Paul Young wanted to happen. When the riot is finally over, while walking down the street of Wisteria Lane, he is shot by an unknown assailant. The neighbors watch as he’s loaded into an ambulance. The police detectives on the scene discover the guy has lots of enemies on the lane. That means lots of suspects. But Paul’s wife, Beth, has only one: her mama.
Felicia Tilman certainly has motive. After all, Paul got away with killing her sister. But she’s genuinely surprised to hear that her nemesis is in the hospital recovering from an assassination attempt. Felicia makes a call to the person she believes may have been behind the shooting: Mike Delfino. The investigating police detectives visit Paul at the hospital to ask why he didn’t mention his mother-in-law as a potential suspect. That’s probably because he had no idea that Beth is Felicia’s daughter. Until now.
Beth catches Paul sitting in a corner, crying in the middle of the night. He has so much hatred for all those who have wronged him. Beth has no idea that her hubby now thinks she’s one of those people. Otherwise, we doubt she would have accepted his invitation to a remote cabin in the woods. The police detectives investigating the shooting approach Paul moments before he and Beth are to leave on their trip. They ask if he recognizes the gun that was found at Bree’s place. It’s obvious he does. He says, “Detectives, I know for a fact this is not Beth’s gun.” Paul then cancels the trip to the cabin, as he now believes the bullet that pierced his body may have come courtesy of his long lost son, Zach. Now that Paul knows that Zach is the person who shot him, he wants to track him down. Paul visits Zach's grandfather's mansion, but discovers it has been foreclosed. Paul then asks Mike where he is. Mike claims he has no idea where the kid is. However, Mike does know where Zach is and he discovers that the boy has a drug addiction. Paul is shocked to hear this, and he and Mike team up to try and find a way to help their son.
Paul and Mike decide to take Zach to rehab and make the journey there. Mike is driving, and Paul is sitting in the backseat, beside his son. Zach is going cold turkey, and tells them he doesn't need to go to rehab. He and Paul get into arguing, with the former telling his father he's responsible for what happened to him. Paul snaps at him, and Mike tells him to take it easy. Zach says he's fine, and Paul yells that he can't be fine because he shot his own father, so he's got two options now: he either goes to rehab, or to jail. Zach calms down. Beth is preparing dinner when Paul comes home, and asks him how everything went with Zach, and whether he got him checked in. Paul says "It's done". Beth says she's relieved. After the riot, she was so hopeful when he'd told her they should go away for a while, but then afterwards it seemed as though he'd become distant yet again. She doesn't blame him, as she can't imagine what he went through, but now they can put that behind them, and start anew. She puts her arm around and feels something weird in his back. It's her gun, which he borrowed for protection. He then asks her why she felt the need to bring a gun into their home, which isn't very romantic. Beth doesn't answer and becomes emotional, taking the gun and putting it away in a drawer, saying that if it bothers him so, they can get rid of it. She then asks him if he's upset with her, if that's why he's acting the way he is. Paul says he has a lot on his mind, and Beth tells him she understands that, but now that Zach is in rehab, they can get things back to normal between them. Paul hints that things can't really get back to normal once someone you hold so close betrays you.

Added by RenabossHe then leaves her alone. In rehab, Paul visits Zach and demands him to tell his father why he shot him. Zach says he wanted his father to die, because he hated him all his life. Paul says that isn't true. Zach says the hate was always a part of him, and it started getting bigger, and one day he realized that such hate was all he was. Paul says that was the drugs' fault, but Zach explains that it was his father's fault, because that's what he does best, he turns people against him, he's evil. Paul says Zach has no idea what he is, how he feels or what he's been through. He then refers to the day Mary Alice shot herself, but Zach says he can't use that as an excuse for what he is, because he is the reason his mom committed suicide. Paul tells him that isn't true. Zach realizes he really hurt Paul. He then tells him trying to kill him was stupid, because him being alive and knowing the truth is way better. Paul tells him his mother loved him, to which he replies no one could ever love Paul. Later that night, Paul is sitting on his bed, waiting for Beth to get out of the bathroom, as she had just taken a shower. She comes out and notices a big packed bag, and thus asks him if he's going anywhere. She tells her she's the one who'll be going away. He then drags her outside, saying he knows what she is. Beth is surprised by this. She tries to explain. Paul says at least Felicia had the guts to hate him in his face. Beth says she did hate him at first, because her mother had told her to, but that all changed, he changed her, he made her fall in love with him. However, Paul isn't buying any of it, and throws her out anyway. Beth swears to God she loves him, but Paul says she doesn't, because no one could ever love him. He then gives her the gun, and shuts the door on her face. Soon after, Beth shoots herself in the head. Paul gets a phone call. His wife is on life support. Beth Young shot herself in head. Her last wish was to donate a kidney to her dear friend Susan Delfino. Okay, Beth and Susan weren't really friends. That's probably why a grieving Paul tells his former neighbor that there's no way she's going to strip his wife for spare parts. Mike wants to fight this thing. The law is on their side. But that doesn't matter to Susan. She barely acknowledged Beth in life, so why should she deserve anything from her in death? Paul swings by the prison where Felicia tells him they need to stop hurling hatred at each other. She wants Beth taken off life support so she can rest. Later, Paul lets Susan know that he's alerted the transplant office to move forward with Beth's wishes. When he breaks down in tears, Susan gives him a hug. We suspect things will only get worse for Paul once he learns Felicia Tilman is being released from prison.
Paul is shocked to discover that the door of one of his houses is open. He heads over and discovers Felicia, who has inherited the house from Beth as Paul bought it in her name. Paul is even more annoyed when he discovers that Felicia has taken Beth's ashes. Later, Felicia goes to Paul's house and apologises for the way she behaved. She says that she wants them to scatter Beth's ashes together at a lake Beth used to like. She claims that she wants Paul to come because Beth loved him - and she doesn't have a car yet. Paul reluctantly agrees. The next day, the pair begin the drive to the lake and Felicia suggests that Beth would be glad they are spending time together as their hate killed her. Felicia then asks Paul if her sister, Martha, suffered when Paul killed her. Paul refuses to answer and Felicia acknowledges that Martha drove Mary-Alice to kill herself. Paul is surprised that Felicia has admitted that, but Felicia explains that Paul loved Mary-Alice so killed Martha, and she loved Martha so tried to destroy Paul. She says that Beth paid the price and she hopes they can put a stop to the cycle and get closure. Paul agrees, but is seen hiding a gun. The pair arrive at the lake and start bickering until Paul says he doesn't trust Felicia. Felicia reveals that she knows Paul brought a gun with him, but eventually pulls it on him, having taken it from him earlier. She points out that she could shoot him right there as it his gun and she could claim self-defence. However, instead she throws it into the lake. She claims that she doesn't want them to fear each other anymore and wants everything to be over. Paul scatters Beth's ashes. The pair return to Wisteria Lane but when Felicia arrives home it emerges that Paul has not scattered Beth's ashes, but just some ashes from the fire. Felicia sifts Beth's real ashes back into the urn and promises to make Paul pay for what he did to her. She tells Beth's ashes that shooting Paul would be too quick and death is the easy way out. Susan continues to bring Paul food but is shocked when she discovers that Felicia is also in the house. Paul and Felicia reveal that they have put their differences aside and Felicia drops the bombshell that she was Beth's mother and has moved into Wisteria Lane. Later, Susan passes on the news to the other housewives but reveals that she is going to continue caring for Paul because she was given a second chance with Beth's kidney and wants to do the same for him. Later, Felicia arrives at Susan's house and claims that she is missing Beth, but remembered that part of her is still alive in Susan. Susan reluctantly agrees to let her in and reveals that she is cooking dinner for Paul. Felicia claims that she is having a migraine and, when Susan leaves to get her some aspirin, puts drops of something into the pie for Paul. Felicia returns home and reads to Beth's ashes about the effects of antifreeze coolant, which is what she slipped into Paul's pie. She reveals that it will cause a "slow and agonising" death involving nausea, vomiting, cardiovascular dysfunction and acute renal failure. Soon, she is following Susan around and slipping the antifreeze coolant into all of Paul's food. Susan is confused as she doesn't know why Paul keeps deteriorating. Later, Mike shows Susan their bank statement and she is thrilled to learn that they have paid all of their bills and have some money left over. Mike reveals that they can afford to move home, but Susan is reluctant to make Paul leave as he is still fragile. However, Mike suggests that she ask him now that she has started looking after him and points out that it might be good for Paul to get away from the memories of Beth. The next day, Susan and Felicia bake some brownies but Felicia is thrown when Susan asks her to try one, explaining that she can't as she is allergic to nuts. Felicia takes a small bite and says they are great, but refuses to eat more. Susan worries that they are bad and decides to make a new batch, but Felicia says she just didn't want to break her diet and eats the rest of the cake. Outside, she throws up into her handbag and throws it into a bin. Susan takes the brownies to Paul, but he admits that he has no appetite and feels dizzy. Susan notices that he took down Beth's painting and suggests that he could maybe use a change of scenery to get away from the memories. Paul says he couldn't leave Susan without a tenant but Susan reveals that she and Mike can now afford to move back in. Paul is furious, believing that Susan has been pretending to care for him so that she can chuck him out and move back home. He angrily says that he knew nobody in the street cared about him but Susan is worse because she pretended to get something out of him. Susan tries to explain, but Paul throws her out of the house and tells her to leave him alone. When he shuts the door, he grabs his heart and collapses.
Susan goes to visit Paul at the hospital. The latter explains that he passed out after chest pains and the doctors are currently running tests. He thanks her for coming to visit him even though he yelled at her and Susan apologises for asking for her house back, admitting that she sounded like a vulture. She leaves when the doctor arrives for Paul's test results. He explains that unless Paul has been poisoned or is pregnant, his symptoms point to stress. Paul is thrown by "poisoned" and the doctor explains that he once saw a man come in who was poisoned by antifreeze - his wife put it in his meals every day until it built up and he died. Paul is immediately suspicious of Susan. When he leaves, she is relieved that her neighbor is alright and offers to make him dinner, asking him what he'd like to have. He says anything she cooked for him would be a "huge help". Paul (still oblivious to Felicia's actions) later informs the police that Susan has been poisoning him, and has her arrested. Mike knocks on Paul's door, and the latter is unwilling to let him in, but Mike keeps him from closing the door on his face. He tells Paul he should know better than to assume that out of all the people who wanted him dead Susan would actually be the one to try to do the deed. Paul says he knows very well Susan was bringing him poisoned food, and Mike explains to him that Felicia was helping Susan all along, and that she was entirely responsible for that. The two go over to Felicia's house and find that her stuff is all gone, it looks as though she ran away. Mike asks Paul if he believes him now.

Added by RenabossLater, Susan shows up on Paul's doorstep after having been cleared by the police, thanks to a statement of his explaining he believed now she was innocent. Susan thanks him, and Paul apologizes for thinking the one person who was ever good to him on that street ever since he returned was trying to kill him. He adds that he's just not used to people being nice to him, which is why he gets suspicious. Paul appears to be packing up, and Susan asks what's going on. Paul says he can't stay there, which is something she doesn't understand, considering Felicia has now disappeared. Paul says it has nothing to do with Felicia, he just doesn't belong on the lane, which she doesn't agree with. She becomes nostalgic, holding a picture of the Young family (Paul, Mary Alice and Zach), and reminds him that when she moved onto the street he and his wife were so nice to her, which is why she wanted to stay there so much. Paul tells her they had to be nice, they had been running away from something terrible they'd done for so many years. They spent everyday waiting for the past to catch up to them, and it did, as it usually does. Susan says that was a long time ago, and he has a chance to start over now. Paul adds that Susan was the only one around him who believed he could start over, and she says she still does. "You're a good person, Paul, I truly believe that", she says. Paul asserts, and explains he'd rather leave while she still believes he's good. He hands her the keys to the place and tells her she and her family should move back to their old house and the rest of the rent will be his gift to her. Susan thanks him and says she doesn't know how to repay him, and Paul asks her that they simply be happy there. She says they will, and the two hug. The next day, Paul comes out of his garage and shuts the automatic door, then taking a moment to appreciate Wisteria Lane. He then walks into the house and is knocked over the head, dropping to the floor immediately afterwards, apparently unconscious.

Added by RenabossPaul wakes up a while later, gagged and tied to a chair with duct tape, and with a serum of poison attached to his arm, pooring it into his veins. Felicia explains to him that she will take the duct tape out of his mouth, but should he scream for help, she'd immediately jam a seringe into his heart, killing him instantly. She then proceeds to explain that the poison running through him will kill him eventually as well, but at a much slower pace, giving the three of them a chance to talk. She takes the gag out of his mouth and he asks her who else is there. Felicia replies "Why, Beth, of course", then revealing the urn containing her daughter's ashes right in front of Paul. She says she just knows Beth would love to be a part of that moment. Back at their apartment, Susan and Mike are packing up and getting ready to leave, and they realize just how much they will not miss that place. Susan has the idea of decorating MJ's old room with all his toys so he could come home to them, and Mike agrees. He says he could stop by later, but Susan tells him to keep packing, she'll do it immediately. Back on the lane, Felicia tries to force a confession and/or an apology from Paul Young for killing her sister Martha, but Paul says he doesn't regret a thing, he didn't then, and he doesn't now, because the minute he saw the life leaving Martha's mean eyes he knew she had gotten what she had coming to her. After all, she had driven his wife to suicide, and so she wasn't so innocent as Felicia passed her off to be. Felicia reveals that she has recorded the whole thing, the confession of the murder, and so once he's gone everyone will know she wasn't crazy after all. Paul tells her that even if people find out he killed Martha, he will go to his grave sure of one thing: everyone knows she's crazy. In the meantime, Susan shows up and spots them together. Paul notices her, and asks Felicia how long he's got till the poison kills him, and she says about thirty minutes. Susan calls 911 and says she's got a murderer loose in her house, and they should send an ambulance and the police. She then has an idea.

Edit
In the episode "Making the Connection", Bree Van de Kamp visited Paul Young in prison after receiving a note in her mailbox that was the same exact letter that Mary Alice Young received before she committed suicide. Bree worriedly tells Paul that she wishes to know who is responsible. Paul tells Bree that as long as she has nothing to hide, she shouldn't be worried. Bree tells Paul that she doesn't have nothing to hide, but wishes to know who was responsible for this so they can get punished. Paul is clueless, but asks if she told the girls because they are the only other people besides Martha who knew about the letter. Bree tells Paul that she didn't mention it to the girls so as to not cause a ruckus. Paul urges Bree to tell the girls because if Mary Alice had done so, things would have turned out differently. Paul goes back to his prison cell.
At the end of the episode, Paul calls Bree from prison and reveals that when he confessed to the murder of Martha Huber, he mentioned the blackmail letter to a tall, white detective named Chuck Vance. This frightens Bree because she has begun to suspect that Chuck may have sent the letter.
