Valerie Mahaffey was born on June 16, 1953 in Sumatra, Indonesia but was raised in Austin, Texas. She went to Austin High School in Austin, TX where she graduated in 1971. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin - BFA '75. Reedy, eccentric character actress who specializes in deceptively normal-appearing ladies. She has frequented a number of off-beat series and won an Emmy for her work in "Northern Exposure". She is married to Joseph Kell and has one child with him.
