[edit] Plot
Mary Alice talks about how Susan frequently almost ran into a woman named Lila, but the two women never crossed paths …til one night, when Susan and Mike were in a car together and their car crashed into Lila’s. Susan manages to get out of the car and sees a bloody Mike has been thrown out of the car. She screams his name…
Gabrielle’s chubby daughter Juanita is trying on a princess dress that’s not fitting. The saleslady tells Gaby there are no larger dresses and suggests Juanita try a costume shop to buy a Mrs. Shrek costume! Gabrielle defends Juanita, insisting her daughter merely has baby fat. Just then, Juanita’s dress rips.
Bree argues with a photographer about a photo he’s taking for her cookbook. Later, Katherine’s upset that Bree’s missing out on things for their catering company. To make up, Bree gives Katherine a galley of her book, which she’s dedicated to Katherine. Lynette enters her restaurant to find her teenage twins Porter and Preston have set up an illegal casino, with drinks. She sends the twins’ friends home. She’s upset her boys have been doing this -- for a month -- and grounds them, even though homecoming is coming up. Susan’s in bed with her fling, Jackson; they’ve just finished amazing sex. And now she wants him to go. He wants to spend the night, meet her friends, meet her son. . . they’ve been having sex for four months, but that’s all Susan wants. Dave Williams knocks on the door of a man who lives on Wisteria Lane. He hands over several bundles of cash; he wants the man’s house, and he wants it tonight. The man’s confused and doesn’t want to take it. But Dave’s not taking no for an answer. He starts to count down from five . .. and then the man takes the money and quickly leaves. Dave goes out to his car and tells his wife they have their house. Oh, and his wife . .. is Edie!
Edie washes her car outside, knowing it’ll attract the attention of the neighbors. Lynette, Gabrielle, Bree, and Susan approach her, and learn she’s moved back, with her husband. Later, the women meet Dave. When Edie wonders why Gaby got so fat, Dave wants her to be nice, and to the women’s amazement, Edie turns nice. As Edie goes to get the muffins she baked, Lynette tells Dave they love him. Gabrielle argues with Carlos, who’s adding cheese to the kids’ brussel sprouts. They argue over Juanita being chubby. As Tom cleans his convertible, Lynette tells Tom to talk to the boys about their misbehavior. But later, as she’s listening in to Tom’s conversation with the twins, she hears Tom laughing and enjoying himself. When Lynette confronts Tom, she realizes he’s enjoying living vicariously through their escapades, since he was such a nerd in high school. Lynette’s not happy to learn Tom ungrounded the boys so they could go to Homecoming.
At a birthday party, Gabrielle’s upset because Juanita is having a huge piece of cake -- her second piece of cake, as it turns out. Gabrielle overhears two other mothers discussing how she’s let Juanita become fat. When Gabrielle can’t convince Juanita to go to the park to play, she instead plays a “game” with Juanita: she drives forward and makes Juanita run after her. When Juanita tires of the game, she gets onto a bus instead. Susan comes home to find Jackson would rather have sex than continue painting her house. She’s game, but when Lynette comes in and wants to talk about Tom and the twins, Jackson has to hide outside til she leaves. (Bob and Lee see Jackson and capture the moment on film.) When they’re finally alone, Susan and Jackson argue. She denies being ashamed of Jackson but doesn’t want something more from him. Bree informs Katherine that "What’s Cooking, Fairview?" will be coming with a camera crew tomorrow. But Katherine’s more interested in Bree’s book, specifically the fact that Bree didn’t credit Katherine for her recipes. Bree claims she at least changed every recipe slightly to make it her own.
With Tom standing next to her, Lynette tells Porter and Preston they can go to Homecoming -- in Tom’s convertible, no less. Tom’s shocked by this, but Lynette hands the boys the keys to the car. Later, with the twins more than a half hour late coming home, Tom and Lynette talk. He needs to lay down the law because their kids are growing up and clearly haven’t learned what they need. The twins finally return home and Tom chews them out, grounds them, and knocks off the side mirror. He confides in Lynette he’s already bought a new mirror. In her test kitchen, Bree introduces the host of What’s Cooking, Fairview to her staff, including Katherine. Katherine pretends to injure her wrist, then insists that Bree handle the complicated spinning of the sugar netting. Bree does her best, but only manages to injure the host, then get the sugar caught on her jewelry. Katherine claims her wrist is healed and she can demonstrate it herself now. Carlos is mad at Gabrielle for humiliating Juanita, but we soon learn that Gabrielle’s worries are as much about her own loss of beauty as anything to do with Juanita. She’s glad Carlos can’t see her. But he tells his wife he’ll always think she’s beautiful.
At Edie’s welcome-back party at the Scavo’s restaurant, Edie’s happy to see Mrs. McCluskey is alive and introduces her to her husband. Edie tells the women she’s happy to have a party as an apology for making her go away, but the women consider it to be a “We forgive you” party. Edie’s mad but her husband Dave pulls her aside. It’s important to him that her neighbors like them. Susan’s upset to see Jackson is at the party, and even more upset when he takes advantage of karaoke to sing, “I Want To be Your Boyfriend.” She turns off the power and pulls Jackson into another room. She can’t be in a relationship, she says, and she might not deserve to be happy. She tells him about the car accident, but he doesn’t think she can feel guilty forever. He’s going to keep hanging out, hoping she’ll let him into her life, and she agrees to him continuing making an effort. Bree flashes back to when Danielle took back Benjamin, after marrying a lawyer and enlisting his help to get Benjamin back. Back in the present, Orson can’t convince Bree to come to bed, as she’s still working ;she threw herself into her work after losing Benjamin.
As Susan’s recalling the car crash, she’s jolted back into the present by the arrival of . .. Mike! Susan flashes back to the aftermath of the crash: Mike survived, but the accident killed a woman and her daughter. Mike and Susan argued about the accident, with Mike insisting he’d had the brakes checked and it wasn’t his fault, while Susan worried that he wasn’t as sorry as he could be. Back in the present, Mike’s taking his son M.J. for the weekend, and when he casually asks about her plans for the weekend, she admits she’s seeing someone. Mike seems happy for her. Edie and Dave are in bed when he gets a call, which he takes to another room. It’s from a doctor who reminds Dave he’s supposed to check in once a month. Dave tells the doctor his meds are working and he’s fine. The doctor watches a tape showing Dave, who had been institutionalized for six weeks. On the tape, Dave says there’s only one person who should be worried about his rage issues. Who is it?
